A chemical peel uses a controlled acid solution to remove the outer, dulled layer of skin, encouraging faster cell turnover and revealing fresher skin underneath. It's a different mechanism than HydraFacial's suction-and-hydration approach — which is why we sometimes recommend one over the other depending on your concern.
Light peels use milder acids with minimal visible peeling — ideal for first-timers or regular maintenance with almost no downtime. Medium peels penetrate further and typically involve a few days of visible flaking, aimed at more noticeable texture and tone improvement. Deep peels require real recovery time and aren't something we do in-house — we'll refer you out if that's genuinely what your skin needs. Most of our Burlington clients get excellent, low-downtime results from light-to-medium peels on a regular cadence.
During application, most clients feel mild tingling or warmth that fades within minutes. Skin may look slightly flushed afterward — similar to post-HydraFacial redness, though peels tend to linger a bit longer. Visible flaking, if any, usually starts 2–3 days after a medium peel and resolves within a week. Sun protection matters even more here than after a HydraFacial, since freshly peeled skin is especially UV-sensitive.
HydraFacial is generally the gentler, more frequent-friendly option — great for hydration, mild congestion, and an overall glow with minimal downtime. Chemical peels go further for texture, tone unevenness, and fine lines, in exchange for more recovery time. Many clients rotate between the two: HydraFacial monthly, a peel every few months for a deeper reset.
Pause retinol and strong exfoliating acids for several days beforehand, minimize sun exposure in the week leading up, and arrive with clean, product-free skin. Mention any recent treatments so we can space services appropriately.
Gentle cleanser, fragrance-free moisturizer, and diligent SPF are the core three. Skip makeup where possible for the first 24–48 hours if any flaking is present. Don't pick at flaking skin — let it shed naturally. Reintroduce actives like retinol only once flaking has fully resolved, typically 5–7 days for a light-to-medium peel.
